You know what you want for Christmas, right? You’ve been thinking about it for a while now, maybe saving up or not-so-subtly leaving hints for your friends and family. The reality is that Christmas is in less than 4 weeks and you can see it and smell it everywhere. You almost know how much fun you will have; you have plans booked with your friends, you have a wish list of foods you want to eat at the Christmas dinner and you probably know the general format for festivities.

Where are we going with this? Well, we want to challenge you to do something that you may not have done before: make a wish list for next Christmas! Basically decide what you want to have achieved by the time you sit down for Christmas lunch 2015! It’s easy to visualise this Christmas isn’t it, but it’s also easy to visualise next Christmas too if you set your mind to it and this is something that separates successful people from the rest.

Mediocre people have a vague idea of what they want to achieve. Successful people know exactly what they want and when they want it. Exceptional people have a plan for how they will reach their goals.

So the first step is to decide what career goals you want to hit next year, maybe a billing target for each quarter, to be promoted or to be the best in your team and so on.  And once you have decided what you want, you then need to take the time to plan for how this will happen.

Of course, it all sounds so simple and we all already know how important these steps are, but most people don’t actually act on this information. It’s the successful people who move to action, and these are the same people who will be sitting down for Christmas dinner 2015 feeling satisfied with where they are at and excited about where they are heading.

At SuperGrad, we regularly see people achieving remarkable success, but without exception all of these high performers have a clear vision of what they are looking to achieve and have been working to a plan.  What’s really cool is that anybody can decide what they would like to achieve and then make a plan for its achievement, and that includes you! So finish reading this article, wrap your mind around it and write down your goals for next Christmas!

Unsuccessful people do what they do and get what they get. Successful people do what they need to get what they want. Which one have you been this year? And what about next year…?
